The Database Administrator is responsible for the planning and administration of technical and operational activities associated with SQL Server database systems. Controls activities related to the day-to-day maintenance of SQL Server database administration functions. Ensures high-level support for the database environment. Has frequent interaction with application development staff as a high-level client problem-solver.
Reports to Sr. Manager Database Services
Participate with the design, development, preparation, and maintenance of SQL Server and Oracle databases.
Participate in key support issues for one or more production databases:
Ensure a high-level application support pertaining to databases and platform operating environment. Provide performance monitoring and tuning, application development and client problem resolution with optimum speed and efficiency.
To be able to prioritize & handle problem management tickets.
Ensure that backup/recovery environments meet requirements and have correct implementation. Assist in recovery from loss of data caused by user or system error. Ensure backup and disaster recovery procedures are in place and followed.
Perform the installation and upgrade of RDBMS and related products. Maintain at current release levels with relevant patches and stable implementations.
Provide capacity planning, monitoring and reporting as required for short-term and long-term growth.
Provide basic system-programming requirements.
Reorganize database structures as needed. Automate procedures at regular intervals and use tools to maximize performance and efficiency.
Ensure data pertaining to the status of problems and service requests is entered into the problem tracking systems accurately and promptly on a daily basis.
Provide application tier support and maintenance when required.
Provide software upgrades and release build distribution using proper change management.
Ensure database availability and optimal performance.
Configure and install Always On availability groups
Provide application database administration and technical support for SQL Server database environments (i.e. development, training, demo and testing). Perform environment refreshes on request. Ensure the integrity of production test and quality assurance environments through proper change management procedures.
Work closely with Systems Programmers – RDBMS to create database schemas and estimate database capacities.
Analyze overall physical database structures for data integrity, performance quality, recoverability, maintenance, space and scaling requirement considerations. Advise managers on requirements.
Technical Skills and Proficiency
At least 4 years of IT experience, with 12-18 months as SQL DBA in SQL Server 2016
Installation/Configuration of SQL Servers and databases.
Tuning of Database (Tuning Memory, I/O, Resource Contention etc)
Hands-on experience in creating, tuning and administration of medium to large databases
Sound Knowledge of Backup and Recovery procedures in SQL Server 2016
Able to optimize SQL Queries
Ability to create/edit SQL DTS/SSIS packages
Jobs and maintenance plans in SQL Server 2016
Knowledge of SQL Server 2012 and Oracle12 is an advantage.
Able to setup & administer remote data replications (Materialized views etc) across databases.
Experience and working knowledge of Always On availability groups
Educational & Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline is desirable.
