Position Summary

Iron Mountain is currently seeking a Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture to join our Global Technology Enterprise Architecture & Platforms organization.

Reporting to the VP, Enterprise Architecture & Platforms (EAP), this position will be a key Technology change agent in the digital transformation journey of Iron Mountain. Candidate will be responsible for the overall TechOps organization architecture leadership, which includes the following primary functions:

  • Identity & Access Management (IAM) : Strategy & execution across all of Iron Mountain, including internal & customer identity.

  • Enterprise Architecture Operations (EAOps) : EA standards & architectural governance through process & frameworks while leveraging data to improve security, lower cost, and continuously rationalize the estate.

  • Finance Operations for Technology (FinOps) : Enable transparency into the cost of delivering technology services, facilitate chargeback to P&Ls, and help control costs through efficient processes.

  • Cloud Operations (CloudOps) : Establish guardrails to enable secure & efficient public and private cloud workloads through an automated factory delivery model.

  • Developer, Security, & Operations (DevSecOps) : Deliver a standard toolchain for reliable DevSecOps & agile planning across the global technology organization.

  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) : Enable a culture of proactive reliability through standard KPIs informed by telemetry, monitoring, & alerting while also delivering high service levels to internal and external customers and minimizing toil within the engineering teams.

Responsibilities include:

General

  • Lead the overall Enterprise Architecture function for the EAP organization. Participate in business strategy & technology selection conversations to determine fit & future growth opportunities. Own the overall platform strategy and enterprise architecture maturity that is driving the Iron Mountain digital transformation.

  • Partner with Enterprise Platform leaders & Technology Product Managers to ensure strategic technology direction is consistent with overall GTO EA & TechOps architecture vision.

  • Partner closely with TechOps Director, Operations & Governance to ensure new TechOps architectures & solutions are able to be operationalized & deployed to the wider GTO organization with proper change management.

  • Lead Technology/Architecture Council to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, education, and continuous improvement among the technology lead and architecture community at Iron Mountain.

IAM

  • Development of the global IAM strategy, capability roadmap, business case, and delivery timeline, with support from IAM, enterprise security, and enterprise platform architecture resources as well as the enterprise technology product management team.

  • Ensure the IAM strategy & capabilities adhere to security standards set by CISO organization, regulatory, audit, & compliance requirements set by Internal Audit organization, and meet the needs of our business stakeholders.

  • Work with customers to explain our IAM strategy & frameworks; develop playbooks for the customer success team to onboard new customers to the IAM platform.

  • Achieve strategic objectives in IAM through innovative thinking, experimentation, and agile execution.

  • Build a collaborative commitment to the IAM strategy through networking, analysis, planning, & consideration of various viewpoints. Influencing without authority is a critical skill in this role.

  • Through collaboration with other technical leaders & architects, define & clearly articulate the IAM architecture through system analysis, audits, and business capability mapping.

  • Develop points of view on emerging IAM technologies and evaluate their applicability to Iron Mountain strategic objectives and operational requirements.

  • Provide coaching to other teams on IAM best practices and features to be completed to adhere to the new IAM strategy.

  • Actively manages the strategic partnership with key vendors and partners.

  • Has responsibility for hiring, training, motivating, and retaining top employees resulting in the development and maintenance of a high-performance team.

  • Lead a team of FTE & consulting resources to ensure the success of the IAM platform.

EAOps

  • Lead a team to develop a strategy for ensuring platform & solution architects are able to properly utilize the EA modeling tool to capture capability & component diagrams.

  • Lead a team to develop a strategy for ensuring our business stakeholders can easily search the EA capability data to identify existing solutions that exist to prevent sprawl.

  • Lead a team to develop an integrated architecture to connect the EA data sets to other IT Operations data in the enterprise data lake to simplify reporting & analytics needs.

FinOps

  • Support the Director, Operations & Governance as well as the FinOps team in ensuring the FinOps architecture, tools, & processes are secure, integrated, & automated.

  • Look for opportunities to streamline operations & minimize toil.

CloudOps

  • Lead a team to enable secure, automated, & efficient cloud operations across public & private cloud based on a defined pattern.

  • Enable more efficient operations through architectural analysis and continuous improvement in network operations, enhanced automation, vendor engagement, etc.

  • Partner with our business stakeholders to understand strategic roadmaps and ensure we have presence, capacity, and regulatory arrangements to meet their needs.

  • Partner with Legal, Data Governance, and Compliance officers to help navigate the complex regulatory environment and ensure we have architectures to support where necessary.

  • Support the Director, Operations & Governance in the overall operations & onboarding process related to our multi-/hybrid- cloud model.

DevOps

  • Develop & deliver a fact-based DevOps reference standard across GTO supported by KPIs that demonstrate increased business agility and improved customer experience.

  • Support the Director, Operations & Governance in the overall operations & onboarding process related to our DevOps toolchain.

  • Lead a team to deliver Kubernetes based DevOps pipelines that enable our shared “runner” model.

  • Partner with Enterprise Security Architect to develop security champion & CI/CD model to ensure each pipeline is following security standards defined in the DevSecOps guardrails (e.g. SAST & DAST scanning).

SRE

  • Partner with the Director, Operations & Governance in the creation of an SRE organization within TechOps.

  • Identify & train an SRE leader to drive the culture shift to SRE (proactive) while also still running hybrid service delivery (reactive).

  • Stand up SRE resources to deliver the transformation.

  • Define the standard SRE blueprint, including toolchain & KPIs.

  • Hold Enterprise Platform leaders & architects accountable for enabling the telemetry to measure them against the KPIs.

Ideal candidates will possess the necessary balance of strategic vision coupled with hands-on architecture & leadership skills. The Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture must have the ability to design systems, processes, and procedures that scale to meet the needs, challenges, and opportunities of the organization. Moreover, they will need to build relationships across all layers of the organization.

They will be an outstanding communicator, capable of describing the business impact and cost justification of initiatives, as well as the transformational potential of emerging technologies. They must possess executive presence, communication, and senior-level influencing skills.

Qualifications:

Work Experience:

10+ with 5 years as a Manager

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Identity & Access Management concepts & technologies; user provisioning, directory services, authentication, authorization, PKI, identity federation, role-based access, etc.

  • Knowledge of IT Operations & System Administration

  • Knowledge of public cloud technologies including AWS, Azure, GCP

  • Knowledge of IT security, risk, and compliance; including industry frameworks like PCI, ISO, NIST, CIS

  • Background in designing and building enterprise scale, high throughput, low latency platforms

  • Familiarity with DevOps & SRE concepts and principles such as DORA, CI/CD, SAST/DAST, SLO/SLA, Signals, & Error Budgets

  • Must be committed to a culture of continuous improvement & agile development

  • Exceptional customer service skills, in addition to extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with users, executives and senior leaders at all levels

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks

  • Strong communication, influencing, and presentation skills

  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and teams with competing priorities.

Preferred:

  • Experience managing enterprise-scale programs

  • Experience as architect or engineer on enterprise-scale programs

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high tech environment juggling multiple priorities while meeting deadlines

  • Experience developing technology-driven strategies & business cases

  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in high pressure situations and manage distributed teams with competing priorities with tight deadlines

  • Acting as the IT escalation point of contact for Executives - ensure customers are highly satisfied with the service provided and that we are providing continuous improvement

Education:

BS/BA degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Information Security or related field or equivalent experience
