Responsibilities

POSITION PROFILE

The Senior Unified Communications Engineer is responsible to define, architect, implement and integrate UC solutions across our offices globally. The role is for a hands-on, UC Subject Matter Expert (SME). The individual should be capable of assisting the team, have and demonstrate the core competencies identified below, and lead by example. In addition to project work, the Senior UC Engineer will participate in analysis and diagnosis of highly complex voice and video networking issues, and plans and assists with executing voice, video, and collaboration upgrade and migration activity.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, and deploy reliable and robust Unified Communications solutions

  • Support Unified Communications projects for the enterprise’s voice, video, mobility and telephony globally

  • Understands business requirements, designs solutions and articulates the designed solution to the business or stake holders

  • Works with Project Managers, Coordinators, and Management in developing and delivering project documentation and UC trainings as per the defined project deliverables.

  • Works with other teams to participate and when needed, lead the execution of UC solutions for new business and M&A activity.

  • Ensure systems are built per standard processes and systems / configurations meet guidelines specified by product vendors..

  • Research and remain current on emerging Unified Communications technologies, products, services, protocols, and standards that are directly in line with the UC vision, business needs, and requirements.

  • Plan for management or phasing out of legacy telephony systems and other switch based technologies.

  • As a UC SME, provide guidance on issues related to other legacy telecom systems.

  • Assume technical leadership role in problem resolution and root cause analysis, and provide actionable after-incident analysis to ensure root cause issues are logged and remediated.

  • Maintain effective external relationships with UC vendors, consultants, and service providers. Leverage these relationships to ensure that the best fit solutions and resources are available to the enterprise. Where necessary, work with solution vendors during installations and deployments.

  • Assists with resolution of escalated incidents and participates in problem management activities. Cross-trains other IT staff in the use or maintenance of technology

  • Provides technical guidance, training, knowledge transfer, knowledge articles, oversight and direction

  • Develops policies, procedures, programs, or scripts as required

  • Provides administrative functions including the development and enforcement of procedural & technical documentation, IT policy recommendations, & security initiatives

  • Advises IT Operation Team and the IT Support Center of performance issues and resolutions

  • Provides reports as defined by business needs and the Risk and Compliance Organization

  • Be available during non-scheduled hours either remotely or on-site as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires 4-year college degree in Computer Science, Telecom, Engineering or related area. Industry certifications are preferred but not a requirement.

  • Minimum of 7 years of IT experience, 5 years of experience designing, configuring, supporting, upgrading, and trouble-shooting Microsoft Lync / Skype environments. Related Windows Server experience required including but not limited to Active Directory groups and permissions, GPOs and integrations required for Skype.

  • Extensive experience with multi-cluster Microsoft Lync 2013/Skype for Business Server installation, administration and configurations

  • Strong knowledge and extensive experience in core telephony platform requirements like Session border controllers (AcmePacketpreferred), dial plan designs, response groups, hunt groups, analog telephony, Faxing, Fax over IP, etc.

  • Extensive experience with Video conferencing technologies from Polycom and Cisco systems.

  • Solid understanding of AV functionality requirements to support AV in conference rooms globally.

  • Extensive experience (at least 3-5 years) with installation, configuration and troubleshooting Cisco, Polycom and other Video conferencing endpoints

  • Solid understanding of underlying UC technologies including but not limited to the following: SIP, H.323, SCCP, digital PRI/T1, analog FXO/FXS, Cisco Unified, PRIs/T1, G711, G729, MPLS and etc.

  • Solid understanding of basic network technologies including but not limited to the following: IPv4 networks / sub-networks, routing, switching, VLANs, QoS for supporting Voice and Video, firewalling, ports and protocols

  • Experience and comfort with opening tickets / cases with vendors to troubleshoot issues, upgrade code or request new features

  • Experience with adhering to change management methodologies and IT Service management rules.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office365 suite is desirable.

  • Strong written, oral and listening skills. Solid critical thinking skills. Adept at presenting to audiences ranging from technical staff to executive management

  • Strong organizational skills and technical acumen, ability to work independently
