Primary purpose of the role
Reporting to the IT Service Delivery Manager, the SQL Developer/DBA is responsible for developing fast and performant database queries, in addition to performing database maintenance tasks.
The SQL Developer/DBA will provide technical and proactive assistance to the UK Government Applications team, and engaging with other customer solutions and support services colleagues, implement effective countermeasures to ensure that system stability and performance is constantly maintained. Duties will include following best database design and development practices, as well as staying up-to-date with all relevant data security procedures and complying with all applicable data protection legislation.
The SQL Developer/DBA will be proficient in T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS and possess a good understanding of business requirements, the underlying data and ETL tools/technologies
Due to the nature of the programme/systems this role requires to support, the candidate must be a UK National who would have no issues in passing an SC security check.
Working in the DBA Team, ensure the management and maintenance of SQL Server Databases so that production systems perform efficiently and optimally for the UK Government customers
Working within the DBA Team, create and optimize stored procedures.
Work closely with the IT Infrastructure teams to ensure support and guidance where needed for database maintenance and monitoring.
Work with the cross-functional teams ensuring that changes to production databases are dealt with a controlled manner
Provides project support to the business by installing, configuring SQL Databases and implementing SQL clustering within the on premise UK Government environments
Provide a first-class reporting and data service to stakeholders.
Working closely with team members to deliver complex goals
Provides third level (tier 3) database support to internal and external customers with a high degree of customer service, quality and expertise by performing a variety of procedural, technical, and programmatic tasks.
Responsible for the development of technical support documentation
Ensures the proper handling of customer information and attention to detail in order to ensure information security compliance. Active participation in the development, support and maintenance of all aspects of security practices within your area of responsibility. Collaboration and Communications with other areas to stay informed of changes and developments that may require Information Security intervention as well as keeping other departments informed of security initiatives that may affect others
Collaborates with Service Desk personnel to ensure the seamless transfer of information between support tiers and demonstrates teamwork
Establish and maintain a working relationship with the other support teams within Information Technology
Provide excellent customer care and service to all internal and external users
Liaise with 3rd party vendors and suppliers to ensure escalated issues are dealt with appropriately

Degree or equivalent in IT related discipline
Formal IT qualifications in field of expertise (Microsoft MCP SQL server / MCDBA / Azure DBA Associate)
Process certifications (eg. ITIL v3)
Knowledge of a range of Corporate Technologies (e.g JAVA, .net, IIS, web services),and methodologies (scrum, agile)
Minimum 3 years’ experience in similar role

British National who has lived in the UK for more than 5 consecutive years and is able to pass a Home office Security Clearance check (SC)

Experience of basic SQL Database Administration
