The Lead Critical Facilities Technician provides technical expertise, facility support in a 24x7 data center environment and is responsible for all aspects of data center operations throughout the year. He/She will exhibit an unwavering positive attitude, be committed to safety and always be reliable within the Data Center.
The Lead Critical Facilities Technician will follow the direction of the assistant manager and supervise the team during normal business hours. He/She will oversee the maintenance of critical and non-critical infrastructure, equipment and will verify the work performed meets IMDC standards. The Lead Critical Facilities Technician will coach his peers/team and provide mechanical and electrical knowledge/expertise whenever required.
He/She is responsible for all aspects of preventive, predictive, planned, and corrective maintenance of the Data Center’s critical systems directly related to service delivery for Data Center Operations.
He/she is required to conduct, coordinate, and manage maintenance via CMMS(Computerized maintenance management system), testing, troubleshooting and repair tasks.
When required, he/she will assist in project management, construction activities and equipment installation tasks.
The Lead Critical Facilities Technician will conduct, manage routine and corrective maintenance for the Data Center. They will conduct this personally and/or through subordinate maintenance personnel. He/she will Participate in tasks associated with customer provisioning and support, oversee and maintain maintenance documentation and ticketing. Identify issues and repair items, schedule and coordinate repair efforts. Provide for equipment maintenance history and documentation via CMMS.
Monitor and operate IMDC’s critical power, cooling/environmental, security and support systems and facilities to meet or exceed up-time service levels
CMMS - Monitor, resolve and update all relevant Operations-assigned service tickets throughout your daily shift using IMDC’s ticketing system. This will include, but is not limited to, follow up with the CF team to ensure work has been completed for the day.
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following activities:
Lead Critical Facilities Technician will assist in writing procedures, training and qualifications to ensure that all maintenance, environmental/building/code compliance, and product and service delivery requirements of the Data Center are met.
Ensure Data Center critical systems comply with public utility, environmental, Federal, State, City and County, and other agencies as required. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA and fire/life/safety requirements to comply with
Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment, inspect buildings, grounds, and all equipment for unsafe conditions or discrepancies with the associated equipment.
Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work
Physically monitor all compute spaces for proactive maintenance
Be a champion of Health and Safety, ensure the environment is clean and safe to work. If identified, any issues will be rectified within a timely manner. Being proactive in identifying issues, would include, opening tickets for maintenance and taking the necessary steps to attain compliance.
Coach his peers/team and provide mechanical and electrical knowledge/expertise whenever required, this will ultimately help deliver 100% uptime while minimizing potential risk.
Troubleshooting tasks and customer installations of critical and non-critical equipment.
A Critical Facilities Technician must have a level of competence working in a data center environment.
They will be required to follow best practices defined for the production and backup data centers.
This role will be responsible for the support and efficient operation of the data center.
This role will be required to troubleshoot and resolve minor to major problems with the Data Center facility equipment, and also assist with problem situations with the electrical and mechanical plants. Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in a critical operations environment and ability to read one-line drawings. Can troubleshoot all types of RTU, CRAC, CRAH’s.
Oversee and provide for modification, installation, and projects specific to customer provisioning as it relates to the Space, HVAC and environmental products sets
Able to create a checklist and follow it in order of arrangement without losing track of completed tasks. Experience managing projects with minimal supervision. Ability to quickly troubleshoot a range of technical situations with diverse scope and complexity in a critical operations environment and resolve effectively and efficiently.
Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally, typed and written. Includes reading, comprehending, and following documentation written in English.
Strong organizational skills, must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
Functional Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
Work closely with OEM vendors, qualified 3rd party technicians, carriers to resolve service issues and continually drive improvements advised by you or the 3rd parties (cost saving and energy efficient recommendations etc.).
Perform basic electrical troubleshooting, including use of an amp-meter, Identify, research and support process improvement actions related to data center services and methods.
Understand major and minor UPS Preventative Maintenance.
Understanding of HVAC.
Support Shipping and Receiving with delivery and tracking of packages internally, packaging/unpacking and loading/unloading of deliveries for customers, carriers, vendors or other offices.
Underpinning knowledge of building management systems and how logic works.
Understanding of intermediate Math and Ohm's law.
Have an Attention to detail and be a critical thinker in a fast-paced environment.
Strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision and demonstrate for others who lack the underpinning knowledge.
Support Remote Hands team – Server Reboots, power cycling equipment, replacing equipment, rack and stack, and assisting with structured cabling.
Create procedures for the Data Center for new, old, critical, non-critical equipment and continuously review older SOPs and MOPs alike.
End-user computer support and/or telecom experience preferred.
Ensure physical security of data center, building, and occupants by maintaining site security protocols, badging requirements and data protection procedures.
Provide general cleaning of the data hall environment as needed on a regular basis.
Complete and document daily walk log of physical DC inspections for general health, power, cooling, hazards, etc.
Remain informed and up-to-date on the policies and procedures in the ServiceNow knowledge base.
Intermediate PC skills with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, G suite, SharePoint proficient.
Over-time work is required based on the needs of the business.
