Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Critical Facilities / Operations Manager, Data Center will be responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the of the critical infrastructure equipment supporting the Data Centers, direct supervision of one to two (1-2) assistant managers and/or direct and indirect supervision of ten to twenty (10-20) operations technicians. He/She has the primary responsibility to ensure that the facility’s power, cooling, and various other subsystems are operating at peak performance, are maintained according to Iron Mountain Data Center and Manufacturer’s schedules and recommendations, meet Customer SLA’s in terms of redundancy and uptime, and that these activities are managed in accordance with all regulatory and compliance frameworks. This position is in a 7x24 environment with on call and call in requirements and responding outside of normal business hours will be required.

Critical Facilities / Operations Manager, Data Center will be responsible for the daily activities of the Critical Facilities, Service Delivery and Shipping & Receiving teams to include oversight of all activity on the dock and data center floor. This role is responsible for internal and external project design. This position will have special responsibilities around customer lifecycle: infrastructure cabling,cross-connects, fiber network, customer installations and build outs, Smart Hands support, customer project management, and decommissioning. He/She will manage carriers within the facility to ensure that IMDC maintains 100% uptime.

Critical Facilities / Operations Manager, Data Center is also responsible for developing the annual budget in support of these activities and ensuring budget adherence. This position has financial responsibilities with regards to Opex and Capex procurement and monthly spend forecasting. He/She will administer the various Building Management Systems (BMS’s) that monitor and control the systems that support the Data Centers, as well as facilitating immediate response to critical facility incidents. This position is highly technical and requires extensive experience in building controls, medium voltage switchgear, critical power delivery components, Chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAH, CRAC and pipping systems. This position will play a key role in staff selection and development. Outstanding customer service skills are required.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following activities:

  1. Able to quickly asses the problem and either make the repair or manage the repair by engaging one of our vendors.

  2. Attend ongoing training to meet minimum job requirements, and as new equipment or process are developed.

  3. Operate, maintain and repair equipment such as CRAHs, AHUs, Chillers, Pumps, Cooling Towers, Plumbing, and Insulation.

  4. Operate, maintain and repair equipment such as UPS’s, Generators, Automatic Transfer Switch’s, Switchgear.

  5. Supervise external vendors to ensure the regulations and operational procedures are followed.

  6. Able to operate Power Meters, Computer Based Control/Alarm systems, Fire Alarm, Security Alarm, CCTV and Card Access systems.

  7. Should possess a good understanding of the following test devices: Multi-meter, IR Meter, Data Cable Tester, Power Analyzer.

  8. Review and update complex mechanical and electrical drawings.

  9. Oversee maintenance contracts and provide retain equipment maintenance, history and documentation.

  10. Ensure Data Center facility complies with public utility, environmental, Federal, State, City and County, and other agencies as required. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA and fire/life/safety requirements.

  11. Respond as an escalation point to the afterhours on-call rotation. This will include managing the investigation, mitigation, and recovery of the issue(s) to completion.

  12. Ensure that the inventory system is managed and up to date for current and in-pipeline projects.

  13. Responsible for managing the implementation of processes, procedures, training, and qualifications to ensure that all maintenance, environmental/building/code compliance, and product and service delivery requirements of the Data Center systems needs are met

  14. Gathering estimates and actual costs for factors relating to the everyday maintenance of the facility, as well as the provisioning and de-provisioning of customer environments. This includes, but is not limited to, materials, labor, and outside contractors.

  15. Oversee and provide for modification, installation, and projects specific to customer provisioning and de-provisioning as it relates to the space, power, and infrastructure.

Order supplies and Customer Install equipment as necessary, maintain accurate inventory levels

Qualifications

Functional Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Six (6) to ten (10) years’ experience in a critical operations environment. Data center experience preferred, electrical maintenance experience required.

  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training and/or six (6) plus years’ relevant experience preferred.

  • Basic mechanical skills for servicing, lubricating, and replacing parts on air handlers, pumps and pipes, and troubleshooting the critical infrastructure

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context to ensure we provide the best service to our customers possible.

  • Be able to maintain a comprehensive understanding of the single line diagrams of all data centers in assigned location

  • Have knowledge of the theory of operation of: Generators, double conversion UPS, transformers, circuit breaker panels, switchgear, centrifugal pumps, variable frequency drives, remotely actuated valves, cooling towers, chillers (including the refrigeration cycle), and heat exchangers

  • Familiarity with the procedures for performing hot work on energized electrical panels including OSHA safeguards and protective equipment

  • Knowledge of the theory of data center fire detection and suppression

  • Knowledge of basic electrical theory including AC/DC power, power/voltage/current relationship, grounding, and electrical circuits.

  • Ability to learn and retain sequence-of-operations for all data centers in assigned location, based on priority and skill of personnel.

  • Ability to follow accurate and complete support procedures, system documentation, and issue tracking entries.

  • Excellent PC skills with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. SharePoint proficient.

  • Knowledge of the ITIL practices including Change management, incident management and resolution

  • Able to work with little to no supervision.

  • Shows good judgment and instincts in decision making.

  • Ability to prioritize in complex, fast-paced environment.

  • Able to demonstrate the ability to take ownership of technical issues brought to them by the customer. If they are unable to resolve certain issues by themselves, can demonstrate a willingness to actively engage other support teams to drive it to resolution.
