Responsibilities

This individual will be responsible for the IMDC IP network. Primary job duties would include network engineering and design; implementation and post installation support of the IP network. The Principal. Network Engineer will support both internal and external client bases.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following activities:

  • Install, maintains, and monitors the operation of the organizations local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) (40%)

  • Lead strategic planning efforts, capacity planning, functional and technical operation of global data center network infrastructure, and tier 3 expertise in resolution of complex network problems. (25%)

  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repairs/fixes for network hardware and software related problems. (10%)

  • Evaluate vendor products in network hardware and telemetry tools and recommend purchases consistent with the organization’s short and long term objectives. (5%)

  • Coordinate activities to ensure success by leveraging redundant and resilient network infrastructure. (5%)

  • Recommend and implement LAN/WAN policies and standards while ensuring adherence to security best practices and procedures. (5%)

  • Possess a detailed and proven track record of deploying complex network configurations, including multi-protocol environments.

  • Interface with software and hardware vendors to procure and maintain appropriate products and services.

  • Perform router and switch configuration, firmware upgrades and other maintenance. Implement and support network protocols, in particular VRRP, iBGP, eBGP, OSPF, IPv6 and VOIP.

  • Support interconnectivity for the following: TCP/IP, MetroEthernet, DWDM, L2/L3VPN, VPLS, PseduoWire, etc.

  • Ensure all related documentation, drawings, processes are maintained current and accurate.

  • Perform engineering across a wide base of client types and network deployments.

  • Project and manage budget as related to growth and scalability of the IP network.

  • 10% global travel and 10% domestic travel required.

Qualifications

  • GED / HS Diploma required.

  • Associates degree IT/Network related technology field preferred. Related experience in lieu of a degree will be accepted.

  • CCNA / CCDA certification or Brocade equivalent certification or working towards certification required.

  • Cisco CCNP / CCDP, CCIE preferred.

  • 10+ years in related networks required.

  • 5+ years in data center / colocation or related environment required.

  • The candidate would have 5 plus years of experience in the day to day operation of a network.

  • 10+ years, showing an increase in responsibility, in various IT network related positions preferred.

  • Supporting a 7x24 environment, being on-call and responding outside of normal business hours is required.

  • Proven experience resolving IP routing issues, in particular BGP and OSPF, and other network performance issues.

  • Interact directly with clients for provisioning, technical support, and a variety of client service issues.

  • Background and experience with Brocade, Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto and other major equipment manufacturers.

  • Background in IT Network Administration preferred.
